Industrial Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Operations Manager to join our Engineering Services division in Port Melbourne.
About the RoleThis is a key leadership position that oversees facility maintenance operations and compliance, ensuring the safe and efficient handling and storage of dangerous goods. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the maintenance and dangerous goods programs, implementing best practices to ensure reliability and safety of operations.
Main Responsibilities- Develop and implement a comprehensive maintenance schedule for industrial plant, equipment, and facilities using MEX software.
- Organise scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, including third-party suppliers.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of plant machinery and equipment.
- Manage and maintain Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Risk Assessments for relevant equipment.
- Manage maintenance budgets and control costs without compromising safety and efficiency.
- Oversee daily activities of the maintenance team, ensuring timely completion of all maintenance tasks.
- Ensure availability of necessary spare parts and maintenance supplies.
- Manage and maintain accurate records of chemical stock holdings, risk assessments, and relevant documentation using ChemAlert software.
- Develop and maintain procedures for safe management of hazardous materials.
- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards related to Dangerous Goods.
- Manage and maintain accurate calibration records of relevant equipment.
- Schedule and organise equipment calibration through external laboratories and suppliers, minimising downtime.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal Workplace Health and Safety laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures, including JSA/SWMS as required.
- Ensure quality accreditation, regulatory, and legislative compliance.
- Implement WHS plans and procedures effectively in work areas, including staff induction and training, addressing WHS hazards promptly.
- Ensure operations align with environmental considerations under the Environmental Management System (ENVMS).
- Relevant trade qualification(s)
- FACILITY/WORKSHOP AND PLANT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE OR EQUIVALENT
- Certification in WHS advantageous
- Experience managing contractor services
- Able to engage positively with technical, engineering, scientific, and management stakeholders
- Computer literacy and proficiency in MEX and ChemAlert software
- Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and requirements regarding Workplace Health and Safety
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive and proactive attitude
