Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in managing financial operations, providing high-quality analysis and advice, and supporting us to meet our financial obligations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting internal budgets and monitoring expenditure to ensure effective financial management
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 requirements and Australian Accounting Standards
  • Providing specialist financial advice to support effective decision-making across the organisation
  • Coordinating financial input into corporate planning, performance reporting and annual reporting
  • Analysing expenditure trends and identifying variances, risks and opportunities for efficiency
  • Managing financial reconciliations, journals, and end-of-month and year processes including the preparation of financial statements

Key Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for an individual with:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)/Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) or equivalent qualifications
  • Broad experience in public accounting practices including internal budgeting, financial statements, taxation and asset management
  • Experience using a Financial Management Information System
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills, including the communication of financial information in a clear and concise manner

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role, you must be an Australian citizen and obtain and maintain a security clearance. You will also be subject to a six-month probation period if new to the APS or has not yet completed their probation period elsewhere in the APS.
