Health Justice Advocate Role

\

Deliver high-quality legal services and education within healthcare settings, addressing family violence and family law matters for clients referred through hospitals and health providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and representation on domestic and family violence, family law, and child protection\
  • Respond to on-call requests for legal advice\
  • Deliver outreach legal services and conduct community legal education\
  • Represent clients in court and tribunal settings\
  • Collaborate with clinicians and health professionals on legal education and mandatory reporting\
  • Create legal content for education programs and online platforms\
  • Support partnerships and strengthen referral pathways between health and legal services\
  • Contribute to law reform, reporting, and organisational compliance\
  • Maintain a strong understanding of local laws and policies affecting families and individuals experiencing domestic and family violence\
  • Develop effective strategies to address the needs of diverse client groups, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds\
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in areas such as family law, domestic violence, and child protection\
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies and service providers to promote a cohesive response to domestic and family violence\
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that support the delivery of high-quality legal services and education\
  • Perform other duties as required by the Senior Management Team\
  • Be eligible to hold a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory\
  • Post-admission experience in areas such as family and domestic violence is highly desirable\
  • Strong communication and time management skills, cultural awareness, and a demonstrated commitment to social justice\
  • Experience working with people from CALD and/or First Nations backgrounds\
  • Familiarity with the CLASS database\
  • Current NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check\
