
Aboriginal Community Support Specialist

The Aboriginal Boarding Supervisor will support and reinforce appropriate values and behaviors in students, particularly Aboriginal students. The role is to create a positive, happy and culturally safe boarding environment for students and staff.
The successful applicant will respect and embrace diversity within the student population while providing opportunities that enrich students' personal and social development, particularly for Aboriginal students.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and reinforce appropriate values and behaviors in students, particularly Aboriginal students;
- Provide opportunities that enrich students' personal and social development;
- Plan and implement suitable activities for all students to enjoy;
- Ensure students receive appropriate care to maintain health and wellbeing;
- Undertake regular, positive communication and liaison with colleagues, parents/guardians, school staff, other professionals and members of the local community;
Requirements
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment;
- Obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before starting;
- Hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Work according to rostered hours which may include nights, weekends and public holidays;
- Obtain a current First Aid Certificate – Provide CPR (HLTAID009) and First Aid Certificate – Provide First Aid (HLTAID011);
- Within six months of commencement, obtain a LR Class Driver's Licence and a Passenger Transport Driver (PTD) authorisation, Aquatic Rescue for Group lll Pool Award, Surf Rescue Certificate, and a Certificate IV in Community Services – Student Residential Care (CHC42021).
