About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Specialist to support the implementation and administration of our data governance framework. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in reducing data risk, supporting critical data roles, and promoting the use of our data governance framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and embedding of our data governance framework, including policies, practices, and controls.
  • Assist in supporting the development of our data governance program of work, including:
    • Developing and documenting new and existing data management standards, processes, and controls.
    • Engaging with business stakeholders to promote data governance.
    • Supporting data initiatives, such as data migrations between operational systems, through:
      • Building glossaries and catalogues.
      • Contributing to data quality processes, such as data profiling.
      • Prioritizing and managing data quality logs.
    • Engaging with and supporting data owners, data custodians, data stewards, and data users by:
      • Promoting and explaining data governance policies and procedures.
      • Identifying and escalating data-related issues and risks.
      • Documenting feedback and contributing practical solutions.
      • Supporting Data Stewards in the creation and curation of data glossaries.
      • Assisting Data Stewards with data quality management processes.
    • Ensuring the smooth running of our data governance framework by:
      • Providing the organization with an understanding of critical data, where it is, and the quality of the data, through the business glossary, data cataloguing, and data quality assessments.
      • Reporting on the progress of the initial rollout, including uptake, compliance, and effectiveness.
      • Performing compliance checks.
      • Maintaining or administering data governance processes and/or procedures.
      • Contributing to tactical decision-making.
      • Identifying risks and recommending actions to avoid, mitigate, or accept risks.
    About You

You are a passionate advocate for data governance and will assist our team in executing our data governance strategy, building key stakeholder relationships, and supporting the implementation of key initiatives.

Knowledge and Experience

The ability to interrogate databases to understand the quality and meaning of the data (SQL or other tools).

High-level understanding of data management concepts.

Experience in Data Management tools.

Some understanding of regulatory requirements related to data privacy, including but not limited to CPG235 and Australian Privacy Principles.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to engage diverse stakeholder groups.

An understanding of the financial services operating environment and products (desirable).
