About Our Community Education Counsellor

We are seeking a dedicated and culturally knowledgeable individual to support our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families.

Our ideal candidate will provide educational counselling and support services to ensure the best possible outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children, students, families, and communities.

This role involves working collaboratively with stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote social justice and improve educational opportunities.

The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories, as well as experience working with diverse communities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing individualised education and career planning advice to students and their families;
  • Developing and implementing programs to promote student engagement and achievement;
  • Collaborating with teachers and other staff to identify and address student needs;
  • Building relationships with local communities and organisations to enhance partnerships and opportunities;

Required qualifications and skills include:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in a field such as education, community development or a related field;
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships;
  • High level of organisational and time management skills;

Additional requirements include:

  • Current driver's license;
  • First Aid certification;
  • Ability to travel locally and nationally ( occasional overnight stays ).
