Job Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Correctional Counsellor to contribute to the delivery of essential frontline services at Queensland Corrective Services. As a Correctional Counsellor, you will work closely with offenders to help them understand their offending behaviours and the consequences of such behaviour.

You will demonstrate experience in taking personal responsibility for following through on any work-related incident or emerging risk without instruction. You will also have experience and understanding of welfare provision in a human services or related field, as well as experience in or exposure to a criminal justice environment or similar human services area.

Key responsibilities include engaging with community groups and/or external service providers, being self-aware and consistent with the attitudes and behaviours that need to be modelled in a correctional environment, and remaining resilient to achieve high standards in the delivery of essential frontline services.

Additional responsibilities include providing administrative and technical support to achieve workplace goals, interpreting and applying legislation, policies, and procedures, communicating professionally and respectfully with colleagues, offenders, management, and stakeholders, and working collaboratively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Skills and qualifications required for this role include knowledge of risk assessment instruments and processes, ability to apply within criminal justice settings, well-developed written communication skills to provide high-quality professional reports and case notes, and well-developed verbal communication skills to engage with a diverse client group and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
