Support Refugee Recovery as a Counsellor Advocate

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of refugees and asylum seekers.

We are seeking a skilled Counsellor Advocate to join our team in providing expert assessment and counselling services, using a diverse range of psychosocial therapeutic interventions. Our goal is to address the complex psychological impact of torture and trauma, while also addressing broader social and economic determinants of mental health.

About the Role:

  • To provide comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments with individuals and families to develop clear formulations and client-centred therapeutic goals.
  • To deliver developmentally appropriate trauma-informed and trauma-focused counselling and therapeutic interventions using a range of evidence-based modalities.
  • To identify critical issues clients experience that are affecting their sense of wellbeing, mental health and safety, and develop strategies for responding to those issues. This includes making referrals and undertaking advocacy with relevant health, community, education, legal services and government agencies.

You Will Have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counselling or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting psychosocial assessments and risk assessments of adults and families.
  • A strong understanding of trauma recovery principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
