Closure Planning Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Closure Planning Specialist to join our team. In this critical role, you will play a key part in providing technical advice and support to the business in closure planning, management, and minimisation of risks and impacts on the physical environment.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of mine closure and environmental restoration principles, as well as excellent project planning and coordination skills. You will work closely with site personnel and contractors to develop comprehensive mine closure plans that meet project and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Closure Design and Planning: Assist mine closure teams in developing closure designs and studies.
  • Project Coordination: Undertake project planning and coordination for research and development projects related to mine closure.
  • Site Collaboration: Work with site personnel and contractors to ensure the development of mine closure studies and site closure plans.
  • Mine Closure Plan Development: Design, review, and update comprehensive mine closure plans in accordance with latest industry standards and environmental regulations.
  • Closure Outcomes: Coordinate development of completion criteria in line with closure outcomes.
  • Business Standards: Assist in developing business closure standards and procedures.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Support functional teams by providing information and guidance on closure aspects at an operational site.
  • Sampling and Analysis: Assist with sampling and analysis work of mineral waste and soil as required to address knowledge gaps in landform design.
  • Closure Embedment: Integrate with site teams to embed closure plan during operations to minimise future liabilities.

This role requires strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to ensure the development of baseline studies and site closure plans that meet project and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mining, Civil or Environmental), Environmental Science, Geoscience, or similar, with minimum 7+ years of experience in mining; operations or consultancy. Mine closure/environmental restoration experience is highly desirable.

This position reports directly to Principal Mine Closure and Rehabilitation - Studies and is based at our HQ office. On occasion, the successful candidate may be required to oversee projects onsite.
