Job Overview

Crop variety development is a critical component of crop improvement programs. As a Crop Variety Developer, you will play a vital role in contributing to the creation of new crop varieties for industry.

You will be part of a small integrated technical team interacting closely with our field staff and gain experience in the processes of developing crop varieties for industry. This includes undertaking high throughput sample preparation, analyzing cotton DNAs for specific sequences, and undertaking general laboratory housekeeping and stock management in a shared laboratory space.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake high throughput sample preparation of leaf or seed material and/or extraction of DNAs for trait genotyping and genome sequencing.
  • Analyse cotton DNAs for specific sequences using digital PCR and fluorescence-based PCR assays such as KASP and TaqMan.
  • Undertake general laboratory housekeeping and stock management in a shared laboratory space.
Requirements
  • Rlevant trade certificate/diploma/bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience in molecular biology, biotechnology or genetics.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing molecular biology reagents and conducting molecular assays.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow and optimise written protocols.
  • Basical computer skills for data entry and analysis.
