The Queensland Fire Department provides comprehensive fire prevention, preparedness and response services to protect communities from fires in the built and landscape environments.
Our team delivers multi-hazard emergency responses, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and supports community safety outcomes.
As a Fire Safety Specialist, you will be part of an organisation that is focused on reframing relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building cultural capability.
Key Responsibilities- Respond to fires and other emergencies in a professional and timely manner to minimise loss to life, property and the environment.
- Improve community safety and emergency preparedness by contributing to fire prevention and community education activities.
- Respond to emergency incidents, including fire, road crash rescue/entrapments, technical rescues, hazardous material and other emergency situations.
- Operate emergency response vehicles and equipment safely and effectively, including driving a fire appliance and other emergency response vehicles as required.
- Provide first aid and resuscitation where necessary.
- Maintain QFD equipment, resources and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
- Perform a range of functions requiring practical application of acquired skills and knowledge.
- Promote community awareness in fire prevention by supporting and participating in community education programs and activities.
- Assist with the inspection of property, buildings and emergency response equipment, and assist with the development of evacuation plans and emergency response procedures.
- Communicate effectively within the workplace, with other emergency service personnel and with members of the community.
- Develop and maintain competencies as required by QFD and pursue opportunities for self-development through relevant training programs.
- Participate in tactical, operational and technical functions to acquire suitable skills and maintain those skills through professional development programs.
