Teacher Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Support Specialist to provide tailored support to students with diverse needs, including physical impairments, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and other requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in delivering individualized educational programs for students with diverse learning needs, promoting academic excellence and social inclusion.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, facilitating their participation in classroom activities and developing essential life skills.
  • Support and assist students who require assistive technology to communicate, empowering them to express their thoughts and ideas effectively.
  • Implement and support behaviour management strategies in line with individual student plans, ensuring a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, mobility, and feeding, as required, demonstrating empathy and compassion.
  • Support students during school excursions and extracurricular activities, fostering social relationships and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to monitor and report on student progress, contributing to informed decision-making and targeted interventions.
Requirements
  • A Certificate III or IV in Education Support or equivalent qualification is highly desired but not mandatory, reflecting a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting, showcasing expertise and confidence.
  • Strong understanding of the needs of students with disabilities, particularly physical impairments, intellectual disabilities, ASD, and ADHD, informing practice and decision-making.
  • Ability to implement individualized learning strategies and behaviour management plans, enhancing student outcomes and well-being.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration and relationship-building.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, ensuring a commitment to student safety and health.
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain, reflecting a dedication to child protection and safeguarding.
