About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Development Engineer to join our team at Amazon. As a Network Development Engineer, you will play a key role in building, growing, and maintaining Amazon's Retail and Web Services network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Help manage the largest network in the world, providing critical network operations support to internal and external customers.
  • Diagnose, remediate, and troubleshoot large-scale networking events, ensuring a safe and reliable operating environment.
  • Support and maintain next-generation data-center networks, delivering simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes to mitigate complex issues.
  • Collaborate with the broader Technical Operations organization to reduce operational burden by enhancing auto-remediation tools and workflows.
  • Work closely with Network Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products.
  • Prompt standards across all layers of the network, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and manage communications during large-scale events, utilizing an established Event Management process.
  • Identify and troubleshoot recurring platform issues, focusing on removing manual actions from mitigation activities.
  • Effectively escalate issues to mid and senior-level management for full resolution.
  • Create and review documentation and process regarding recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience.
  • 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience.
  • Excellent Ethernet and IP networking knowledge and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.
  • Substantial background in large-scale datacenter network implementations and support.
  • Significant past experience with the following protocols and concepts: BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, TCP/IP Flow control, UDP, HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, DNS, ARP, HTTP, SSL, STP, Trunking, & Port Channeling, IPsec and TLS.
  • Software development/scripting skills are required, with Python or shell (bash) experience desirable.
  • Knowledge or awareness of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and Operational Excellence concepts or methodologies is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl experience.
  • A relevant degree in a related technical discipline or at least three years relevant experience in a large-scale network operations environment is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with major Internet routing protocols, BGP, OSPF.
  • Effective prioritization and time management.
  • Some knowledge of Agile/SCRUM and/or feeling comfortable with those principles.
