We're looking for a skilled engineer to lead our capital projects and ensure the successful delivery of our refinery's business objectives.

About the Role

This is an opportunity for a senior project engineer to join our team at Alcoa's Wagerup refinery, providing technical direction and leadership for our capital projects. You will be responsible for ensuring that our refinery capital projects have adequate front-end loading, including the development of best practical solutions for the opportunity or problem defined, as well as commissioning management of the project.

You will also be accountable for project performance during the Basic Engineering, Detailed Engineering, and Construction Phases of the project.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the owner's team in developing cost-effective, operable, and maintainable solutions to well-defined problems or opportunity statements.
  • Ensure stakeholders understand and contribute to the progress of projects through the front-end loading phase, and manage issues that create potential delays or cost overruns effectively.
  • Foster longer-term opportunities for improvement by sharing knowledge and developing resources within the organization and preferred engineering houses.
  • Facilitate timely and cost-effective project outcomes by meeting the refinery's business needs.
  • E nsure projects align with statutory, organizational, and plant requirements for design, construction, commissioning, and operation.
  • Engage the technical development group and other appropriate external resources to ensure best practice design and implementation, providing practical, cost-effective solutions aimed at minimizing capital intensity.
  • Provide Technical, Operational, and Maintenance input into the Project Execution Plan with a focus on safety, environment, operability, maintainability, and ergonomics.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in an engineering field, coupled with relevant experience in a project management field in capital projects and asset delivery.
  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering design experience in brownfields installation.
  • A business and customer-focused perspective, along with an appreciation of engineering alliance type relationships.
