About the Role

This is a strategic role that requires a deep understanding of government relations and policy debates. The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders, including the Vice-Chancellor and other university leaders, to build relationships and secure opportunities for engagement and partnership with government.

Key Responsibilities
  • Building and strengthening UNSW's stakeholder network and identifying opportunities for partnership with government.
  • Providing timely and accurate expert advice regarding developments in government to senior stakeholders within the University.
  • Coordinating government stakeholders visiting the University, including scheduling, briefing, and follow-through to facilitate productive interactions with university leadership, faculties, staff, and students.
  • Assisting with the preparation of policy reports, briefing papers, speeches, submissions, and discussion papers on current and emerging issues in higher education.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated understanding of government relations and familiarity with the political environment, as well as the ability to quickly understand a range of complex policy issues and provide high-quality analysis and advice.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write and produce publications, web content, and communications materials, as well as present to various audiences.
  • High-level project management experience, proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly understand new subject matter and a range of complex policy issues in order to provide high-quality advice to internal stakeholders and advocate on the subject externally.
  • Confident networker with developed interpersonal, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills, with an ability to influence senior management.
  • Strategic thinking, with the ability to apply judgment, creativity, and flexibility to generate new and innovative ideas and approaches and to solve complex problems.
