Staff Specialist Role

The Royal Hobart Hospital seeks a qualified Staff Specialist to fill the position of Pathology/Haematology Expert.

This role involves conducting diagnostic review meetings, participating in academic activities, and providing consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion, and other subspecialties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in laboratory work within diagnostic Haematology services of the Royal Hobart Hospital.
  • Conduct diagnostic review meetings and participate in academic activities.
  • Provide consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion, and Coagulation.
  • Represent the specialty on hospital and statewide committees.
  • Provide coordination services for haemophilia and coagulation disorders management in Tasmania.
Teaching and Education
  • Provide undergraduate teaching to University of Tasmania School of Medicine students.
  • Supervise and train postgraduate specialist trainees.
  • Deliver workplace teaching to Pathology staff.
  • Offer postgraduate teaching to other hospital groups.
Quality Improvement and Research
  • Regular participation in quality meetings and improvement activities.
  • Maintain research involvement and supervise research students.
  • Monitor laboratory operations focusing on patient-centred care.
