About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Landscape Subdivisions team at Wyndham City Council. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for fostering a culture of inclusion, safety, and care for our people, while driving the effective delivery of high-quality design-based outcomes in the built or natural environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Landscape Subdivisions team effectively and proactively to contribute to growth area planning, ensuring liveability, practical, maintainable, and aesthetic outcomes within the built or natural environment.
  • Develop and motivate staff through coaching, supervision, performance development, and management, reinforcing Council values and policies.
  • Negotiate improved development outcomes for larger development proposals or proposals that will have an impact on the built or natural environment.
  • Provide professional input into the development of policies, plans, guidelines, and mechanisms for improved design outcomes for private and public urban development, as well as enhanced efficiency of outputs.
  • Provide high-level advice to senior management and Council on design issues and projects.
  • Prepare project briefs and supervise external consultants/service providers to deliver services on behalf of Council.
  • Develop and implement the Landscape Subdivisions business plan and manage the unit's budget and capital works budget assigned to the unit.
Requirements
  • Extensive people leadership experience, promoting cross-divisional collaborated outcomes.
  • Extensive experience in landscape and urban design projects within local government or the private sector.
  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, work across teams, and provide clear and high-level advice and support.
  • Proven ability to effectively address and resolve strategic issues that arise within a growth area municipality, ensuring sustainable development and alignment with municipal goals.
