Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to lead our team in providing high-quality mental health care to young people aged 12-25 years.

  • This is a part-time, flexible position with a minimum of 3 days per week.
About the Role

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to promote comprehensive evidence-based psychiatric care that is youth-friendly, safe, effective, and of a high standard.

  • Key responsibilities include overseeing clinical review and quality assurance processes, supervising staff, participating in professional development meetings, and contributing to community partnerships.
Key Objectives
  • To detect early those young people who are experiencing or at risk of a first episode of psychosis.
  • To reduce the duration of untreated psychosis and minimize its impact on the normal developmental trajectory of the young person.
  • To intervene early and effectively with young people at risk of a first episode of psychosis to prevent the onset of psychotic illness.
  • To enable symptomatic and functional recovery from a first episode of psychosis.
Requirements
  • Registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent postgraduate specialist qualification.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in crisis intervention and management of young people in the acute phase of a mental illness.
  • Substantial knowledge of the evidence base for biopsychosocial treatments of first episode psychosis.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with young people, their families, and/or significant others.

Salary

$150,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience.
