The Australian Government offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates to launch their careers and work across multiple Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.

Collaborative and enthusiastic individuals who are keen to work as part of a team will be encouraged to apply. We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds and experiences, as we believe this leads to a better environment for employees and better outcomes for Australia.

The graduate program consists of:

  • Two/three work rotations to experience diverse roles and responsibilities
  • A 12-month training and development program with targeted learning and development opportunities
  • Development activities, formal training, on-the-job learning, and networking

As a STEM graduate, you will be invited to exclusive events and networking opportunities throughout the year.

Successful applicants will be matched with a suitable position in a participating department or agency. In previous years, over 60 agencies have placed graduates from the Australian Government Graduate Program.

You'll have the opportunity to nominate your preferred placement when applying.

Eligible applicants must have completed a minimum three-year undergraduate degree within the last five years in a STEM field.

Requirements include being an Australian citizen, having or will have completed a Bachelor degree or higher by December 2026, and obtaining a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted into the program.

The selection process typically includes online application, testing, video interview, assessment centre, matching, and offers.

Most graduate roles are based in Canberra, but some may be available in other cities and regional centres.
