
Infrastructure Automation Specialist

This role supports and manages the global network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in network engineering, be able to communicate effectively, and be passionate about network infrastructure services, automation, self-serving services, technology, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute assigned network management operational tasks and requests following existing processes, guidelines, and runbooks.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network setups and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with carriers and service providers to correct faults, warranty claims, operating system bugs, and feature upgrades and road map activities.
- Act as the point of contact for clients on all types of requests generated internally via monitoring systems or externally from clients.
- Identify opportunities for automation of network operational tasks and processes.
- Develop comprehensive automated workflows and procedures to reduce human intervention in existing network infrastructure management processes.
- Create and maintain runbooks and knowledge base documentation.
- Work with various Infrastructure and Application teams across disciplines to gather requirements and provide guidance through Platform Network services and operations.
- Build and maintain network monitoring, orchestration, and automation solutions, including automated inventory reconciliation and remediation, workflow automation, automated network configuration validation, automated network health monitoring, automated alerts handling, and incident remediation.
- Ensure timely solutions and process improvement and make sure the automation solutions are secure and aligned with the overall strategy.
- Continuously evaluate existing processes with industry standards and make recommendations for improvement in security, processes, application time-to-market, and quality.
- Document automation processes, network infrastructure details, and all network environment changes.
- Identify and help solve bottlenecks and problems using structured analytical approaches.
- Implement Operations As Code (OaC), Network As Code (NaC) practices to ensure teams follow guidelines and best practices, including scalability, repeatability, consistency, portability, and security of deployed automation solutions.
- Assist with managing physical infrastructure equipment in a typical comms/server room, helping with remote management and upgrades across global infrastructure, collaborating with Telco vendors and local office and building management when needed.
- Monitor the performance of our network infrastructure and develop solutions to address any issues.
- Perform regular network infrastructure audits to ensure compliance with best practices and industry standards.
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and help enhance quality of internal processes. Automate everything possible.
- The nature of this role may require reasonable overtime work before/after hours and on weekends.
- While performing the duties of this job, the individual may be required to lift and move/help move heavy comms room network materials/equipment occasionally.
- Collaborate with team members and peers across global teams to ensure work matters are discussed and kept up-to-date.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or related job experience.
- 7+ years of experience in network infrastructure administration and network configuration management.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with 24/7 production network infrastructure operations.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco routing, including experience with dynamic routing protocols (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), Cisco switching, including an understanding of VLANs, trunking, and spanning-tree.
- Experience with Wireshark or similar tools for packet capturing and analysis.
- Must have strong testing, problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills with an ability to identify stakeholders, assess their needs, and manage their expectations through effective communication.
- Proficient managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, geographically dispersed environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various levels of technical and non-technical leaders.
- Experience building services with an API-driven approach to enable seamless integration of network tools with various other network-related services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's in Computer Science or related field.
- 3+ years of experienced developing network infrastructure automation, network configuration management frameworks, and tools such as Ansible, Terraform, etc.
- Experience building and managing cloud-based network infrastructure in Azure/AWS or other public clouds.
- Building and supporting Palo Alto firewalls.
- Hands-on experience with setting up and configuring switches and routers.
- Hands-on experience with voice network technologies, such as Cisco voice network solutions including Cisco Webex calling.
- Hands-on experience with deployment, configuration, and usage of various network monitoring tools to identify and respond to network-related problems.
- Proficient in implementing and troubleshooting wireless network technologies (Meraki preferred).
- Experience supporting remote access VPN solutions.
- Experience with Cisco ISE authentication systems.
- Global and local load balancing technologies.
- Proficient in implementing and troubleshooting MPLS in a LAN/WAN network.
