About the Role

Cabrini Health is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Associate Director, Patient Safety. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the patient safety portfolio and drive a focus on patient safety across Cabrini Health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Patient Safety Portfolio: Embed a framework and toolkit for adverse patient safety event reviews, mortality reviews, and Statutory Duty of Candour requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Patient Safety Team: Work with members of the Quality and Patient Safety team, clinical teams, and Patient Experience/Patient Liaison departments to contribute to a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide Guidance and Education: Offer guidance for clinical service directorates and clinical managers in event review processes, and provide education and support in relation to incident identification and management.
  • Oversee Improvements to Clinical Incident Reporting System: Oversee improvements to the clinical incident reporting system, RiskMan, and the adoption of contemporary classifications that support organisational reporting.
  • Conduct Patient and Family Meetings: Collaborate with clinical directors to conduct patient and family meetings, providing a supportive and comfortable environment for patients and families to share their experiences.
Requirements
  • AHPRA Registration: Registered Nurse (essential).
  • Post-graduate Leadership or Management Training: Preferred.
  • Experience in Senior Nursing Position: Experience in a senior nursing position in an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience Leading Patient Safety Event Reviews: Experience leading patient safety event reviews, including liaison with impacted patients and families.
  • Detailed Understanding of SDC: Detailed understanding of SDC, including SAPSE reviews, sentinel event reviews, and legislative requirements.
  • Working Knowledge of National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards: Working knowledge of national safety and quality health services standards, specifically the actions which relate to delivery of clinical care, patient safety, and clinical documentation.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Incident and Quality Management Processes: Knowledge of clinical incident and quality management processes, frameworks, and tools (RCA, London protocol, etc.).
  • Understanding of Legislative and Accreditation Requirements: Understanding of legislative and accreditation requirements within acute health services.
