About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and empathetic Family Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Orygen. As a Family Peer Support Specialist, you will work closely with families who have experienced mental health issues, providing support, guidance, and connection to relevant services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote and advocate for the voice of families within the local multi-disciplinary team.
  • Offer informal drop-in and appointment-based services for families of young people attending headspace, providing support, information, and psychoeducation.
  • Provide empathic listening and support to families of young people attending headspace, using a person-centred and strengths-based approach.
  • Assist families in linking into other family support, mental health, AOD, and other relevant services in their area.
Requirements
  • A personal experience of supporting a child and/or young adult family member who is/was experiencing mental ill health or alcohol and other drugs.
  • Capacity to share own lived experience in a meaningful, appropriate, and considered way.
  • Capacity and willingness to conduct groups with families.
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a diverse range of people, families, and stakeholders.
  • Cert IV in Peer Work, and/or Foundations of Peer Work and/or Core Intentional Peer Support training would be desirable.
What We Offer
  • Salary package between $66,018 - $72,045 commensurate with skills and experience pro rata + 11.5% super + NFP salary packaging up to $15,900 + $2,600 meals and entertainment card.
