We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate in Crop-Microbe Interaction to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to contribute to the School of Agriculture, Food & Wine's research program.

The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Dr Yi Zhou, Senior Research Fellow in Sustainable Agriculture. They will be responsible for conducting field-based and laboratory research on plant-microbe interactions, developing innovative approaches to sustainable cropping systems, collaborating with industry leaders, and supervising Honours, Masters and PhD students.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD with a focus on crop-microbe interaction, soil biology or a related discipline. They will also possess knowledge and experience in conducting field experimentation to assess microbes/microbiome in plant and soil systems, evidence of a publication record in peer-reviewed journals, excellent organisational and time management skills, and excellent personal and interpersonal skills and capacity to work effectively internally across the University community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field-based and laboratory research on plant-microbe interactions.
  • Develop innovative approaches to sustainable cropping systems.
  • Collaborate with industry leaders.
  • Supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students.

Requirements:

  • PhD with a focus on crop-microbe interaction, soil biology or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and experience in conducting field experimentation to assess microbes/microbiome in plant and soil systems.
  • Evidence of a publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent personal and interpersonal skills and capacity to work effectively internally across the University community.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge and skills in bioinformatics for analysing metagenomes and microbial genomes.

Working Conditions:

This position will require you to obtain a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
