Job Summary

Lead a team of payroll professionals and manage day-to-day operations for multiple clients. Prioritize tasks, coach team members, review payrolls for accuracy and compliance, resolve issues, and maintain work within scope, time, and budget.

Main Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Coaching:
    • Oversee daily workflow, assign tasks, and ensure deadlines are met.
    • Counsel payroll professionals, conduct regular check-ins, and review their work to enhance standards.
    • Onboard new team members and establish consistent working procedures.
  • Payroll Processing Oversight & Quality:
    • Supervise end-to-end payroll cycles across clients.
    • Process selected payrolls during peak periods and serve as backup to guarantee continuous service.
    • Review timesheets, classifications, leave, allowances, superannuation, PAYG, and STP.
    • Handle complex terminations and redundancies, including multi-state long service leave and back payments; apply correct employment termination payments, PAYG, superannuation, STP, and payroll tax.
    • Apply modern awards and national employment standards correctly; maintain payrolls compliant.
  • Systems, Reporting, & Documentation:
    • Utilize Employment Hero Payroll and Karbon to manage work and reporting.
    • Configure Employment Hero Payroll and address rule exceptions; manage changes with testing and a clear change log.
    • Keep client files organized: approvals, advice, reports, and key dates easily accessible.
    • Enhance templates, checklists, and standard operating procedures.
    • Share knowledge and promote standardized best practices across clients.
    About You

You are a hands-on payroll professional who enjoys leading others and delivering accurate, compliant outcomes for multiple clients. Calm under pressure, clear with clients, and focused on quality, you set standards and lift the team around you.

You'll bring:

  • 5+ years' payroll experience (multi-client or multi-award), with recent senior/lead exposure.
  • Strong award knowledge and confidence across STP, superannuation, and payroll tax.
  • Proficient in Employment Hero Payroll and comfortable with workflow tools like Karbon.
  • Proven ability to coach payroll professionals and review work to a high standard.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder skills.
  • Highly organized, detail-focused; able to manage deadlines, budgets, and priorities.
