VFX Trainer

The VFX Trainer is a key role within Industrial Light & Magic, responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training programs for new and current employees across all global studios. This position requires a strong understanding of visual effects and training methodologies, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Manage Studio Talent Group programs within the Sydney studio, ensuring effective training and development of employees.
• Deliver virtual technical training courses to ILM employees worldwide, utilizing industry-standard software packages and proprietary tools.
• Create, evaluate, and maintain technical documentation using Confluence, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Carry out shotwork in assigned productions, contributing to the creative process and meeting production requirements.
• Develop and implement Jedi Academy programs, focusing on entry-level talent development and curriculum creation.
• Partner with studio leaders to understand technical training needs and requirements.
• Collaborate with the Training Coordinator to schedule and set up training sessions, ensuring seamless delivery.
• Customize new starter technical training to meet individual trainee needs and goals.
• Evaluate and report on trainee progress to the Director of Talent Development and relevant department managers.
• Work closely with Talent Management to identify and address technical skill gaps.

• Strong knowledge of training and development methods, with a focus on visual effects.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across time zones.
• Experience with industry-standard software packages, including Maya, Katana, Nuke, Houdini, and Photoshop.
• Familiarity with G Suite and Linux operating systems.
• Desirable skills include knowledge of Python, C/C++, and shell scripting.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or a related technical field.
• At least 8 years of production experience in visual effects for film, commercials, or television.
