Education Support Role Description

This is an opportunity for a reflective and flexible Education Support Professional to join the Department of Education. We are seeking applicants with specialist knowledge and skills related to students with complex needs, including Intellectual Disability (ID), multiple physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Trauma.

Suitable applicants should be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and creating a supportive environment where student success is celebrated. They should also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate with staff to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students.

The successful applicant will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans that address the whole child through targeted social-emotional skills, life skills, and Protective Behaviours curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of a range of social and interpersonal skills that will enable our students to interact successfully with their community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To develop, implement and review Individual Education Plans that address the whole child;
  • To work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to provide a supportive and inclusive education program;
  • To promote and foster student engagement and celebrate student success;
  • To communicate effectively with parents and external agencies to ensure optimum outcomes for all students;
  • To participate in professional development and training to enhance knowledge and skills in special needs education.

Requirements:

  • A relevant teaching qualification and registration;
  • An Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment;
  • Ability to consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department's Screening Unit before commencing employment;
  • Ability to apply for a WA Working with Children Check before commencing employment.
