Electrical Engineers and related disciplines drive our team forward in a position that empowers them to understand, analyze, and apply knowledge of electric power systems. We seek candidates with the expertise to take on complex assignments, lead training, and assist customers with automation and protection system design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning, and operation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist customers in creating, designing, configuring, validating, installing, commissioning, and operating automation and/or protection systems.
  • Lead in training and mentoring professional staff, supervising as necessary.
  • Develop, prepare, and present proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems.
  • Mentor and develop professional staff, ensuring they adhere to SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
  • Perform site acceptance testing, train and assist customers with installation, commissioning, and operation of devices.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.

At least 5 years of experience in application development with electric power systems, industry practices, and related focus area practices and philosophies.

Demonstrated knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to learn new skills, and assume new responsibilities.

Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and travel at least 25% based on assigned projects.

Background check results satisfactory to SEL, negative drug test result(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineer License or equivalent certification.

Experience in electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator environments.

Project management experience, working knowledge of Vision or other project management tracking software.

Focus areas include Protection, Automation, Design, Studies, Commissioning, Security, Networking, and Project Management.

  • Automation: software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, SCADA practices.
  • Civil: civil design and engineering theory, principles, and applications; structural design and constructability of electrical power substations.
  • Commissioning: perform commissioning and site acceptance testing in the field, train and assist customers with installation, commissioning, and operation of devices.
  • Design: analyze technical specifications; create detailed physical and electrical designs, bill of materials, and job estimates.
  • Networking: industrial control system networking experience, including provision, design, test, and implementation of wide area/local area networks.
  • Project Manager: Full life-cycle project management of multiple large multi-discipline projects from proposal conception to commissioning and close-out.
  • Proposals: Review customer RFQ documents for technical specifications and scope, develop work statements, preliminary designs, responsibility matrices, risk assessments, cash flow, and preliminary project schedules.
  • Security: Industrial control system security experience, including technical controls, security assessments, policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Studies: Demonstrated experience using PSSE, ETAP, and/or RTDS, strong electrical power systems knowledge.
