About the Role

Hitachi Energy Australia Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in a key leadership role within our Grid Edge Solutions, Microgrids and Battery Energy Storage business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: You will act as a technical lead, approving design deliverables, reviewing all project documents for conformity and quality assurance, anticipating and solving unprecedented problems, crucial issues, and/or unique conditions, and serving as a specialist in the application of advanced concepts and methods.
  • Proposal Development: You will assist in preparing proposal/presentation of engineering projects/programs, providing bills of materials, estimated engineering hours, etc.
  • Contract Management: You will support Contract Managers in issuing claims, providing quality solutions as per customer requirements and industry standards, and delivering within budget, quality, and contract, managing technical queries and design solutions, and ensuring adherence to safety standards and mitigating potential risks.
  • Project Execution: You will create work plans and cost estimates in your area of responsibility, review and approve scope, budget, and schedule for assignments, ensure quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost, and improve the effectiveness of work plans in collaboration with other functions.
  • Risk Management: You will create and execute strategies for risk and opportunity management in your area of responsibility, identify and manage contract risks, taking preventive/corrective actions to resolve any contract/quality/program/cost issues, and report any outstanding issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.
  • Customer Collaboration: You will work with customers to shape and deliver solutions, seeking customer feedback to drive and deliver improvements, attending project meetings, and presenting specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Supply Chain Management: You will collaborate with the Supply Chain function to ensure that technical requirements for equipment or services are communicated and agreed upon with potential suppliers, providing technical evaluation of supplier proposals, and accepting as fit for purpose supplied equipment or services.
  • Standardization and Technical Expertise: You will represent the function in standardization committees, communicate and conferences pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments, act as a technical specialist/adviser to senior management, and collaborate and network within Hitachi Energy and externally.
  • Quality and Safety Management: You will review, develop, and document quality standards, processes, tools, and techniques, ensuring that engineering activities comply with required safety regulations and contractual requirements, and contribute towards continuous improvements of processes and tools for engineering efficiency.

About You

  • Qualifications: Tertiary or degree qualifications in Engineering (electrical), or equivalent.
  • Technical Expertise: High level of technical aptitude in power systems, power generation, electrical engineering.
  • Experience: Experience in engineering execution and delivery of large power system-based projects, including power automation, generation, or control, Battery Energy Storage, or Inverter-based technology.
  • Industry Exposure: Exposure to heavy engineering segments, Mining, oil, and gas, or heavy industry.
  • Computer Skills: Advanced computer skills, including engineering software applications.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail.
  • Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills: Proactive and highly organized, including timeliness and ability to meet deadlines and changing priorities, ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Highly flexible and demonstrable problem-solving skills.
