Job Description

The Legal Director, APAC Commercial role is responsible for managing the legal affairs of a global company. This includes providing legal counsel across the organization, handling disputes, and creating and enforcing intellectual property.

The Legal Team performs a critical function in the business by advising and enabling commercial teams with legal advice and representation whilst protecting the interests of the company. Your client base will be the commercial groups across the Asia Pacific Region, embracing revenue, marketing, product marketing, and commercial transformation.

This job works closely with the Global Legal Team, Product Legal, Privacy teams, Global Contracts Management teams, Corporate Legal function, corporate finance, corporate governance, compliance, investments, and acquisitions. The Global Legal Team also supports litigation and other dispute resolution.

The department provides education and awareness to client groups on relevant laws and practice. As the Legal Director, APAC Commercial, this position is the subject matter expert for all commercial legal affairs within the Asia Pacific Region, leader of the Legal Commercial Team in APAC, and an integral part of the Asia Pacific Revenue and Marketing management teams.

This leadership role ensures the effective delivery of legal services to operational commercial groups within the Asia Pacific Region by advising and enabling clients to achieve their business goals, including helping clients make risk-based decisions, all while protecting the interests of the company.

In addition to these individual responsibilities, this role works in partnership with other members of the global legal team to ensure a collaborative, specialized, and world-class legal affairs group.

Responsibilities

• Oversee advice and support for commercial teams and all commercial activities across the Asia Pacific region.

• Manage a team of lawyers located in various countries across the APAC region (Australia, China, and Korea).

• Partner with senior commercial management and play a key role in senior commercial leadership teams across the APAC region.

• Analyze the organization's regional legal and corporate risk, offering alternatives and recommendations as required.

  ">

• Draft and negotiate major commercial contracts in support of commercial activities across the APAC region, collaborating with the Global Contracts Management teams.

• Advise and support commercial activities, including Sales, eCommerce, Distribution, commercial transformation, Marketing, Medical Affairs, and Compliance.

• Advise on innovative go-to-market strategies, including novel pathways to reach patients in non-traditional ways, focusing on development and implementation of strategic and operational objectives that help achieve organizational mission and departmental goals.

• Coordinate activities with global counterparts to deliver repeatable and predictable legal advice to commercial clients, other global commercial lawyers, and global commercial offerings.

• Provide education and awareness to client groups on relevant laws and practice.

• Oversee a legal budget and engagement of outside legal counsel.

• Attend to special projects assigned from time to time.

• Ad hoc travel across the APAC region and to the US.

Qualifications and Experience

The minimum qualifications include a degree in law, holding a legal license, and mastering common law. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of legal experience with proven leadership in a law firm or publicly traded company.
