Rust Engineering Lead

We are seeking a highly skilled Rust engineer to lead our team. The ideal candidate will have exceptional technical expertise, strong leadership skills and a passion for innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Software Development: Design and implement well-tested and well-documented software in Rust.
  • Tech Advocacy: Advocate for Rust adoption in Canonical and upstream projects.
  • Project Selection: Identify projects and codebases that could be prioritised for Rust adoption.
  • User Support: Debug and fix issues encountered by your users.
  • Engineering Process: Participate in our engineering process through code and architectural reviews.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications.
  • Process Improvement: Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices.
  • Service Deployment: In some cases, deploy and operate services developed by the team.
  • Product Success: Contribute to the success of your product through technical advocacy.

Requirements:

  • Academic Excellence: An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.
  • Educational Background: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
  • Experience: For more senior roles, experience building, deploying, and operating distributed systems and APIs.
  • Drive and Motivation: Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations.
  • Organisation: Well-organised, self-starting and able to deliver to schedule.

  • Linux Experience: Experience designing and writing high-quality Rust software on Linux.
