Position Overview:
As the Beauty Merchandise Buyer, you will be responsible for selecting and developing innovative products that resonate with the Sportsgirl customer, while ensuring the department meets its sales targets, intake margins, planned markdowns, and overall gross profit.
Your experience in managing a high SKU count category will be essential in this fast-paced role. You will engage in both buying and product development, showcasing your creativity and innovation to ensure our beloved Sportsgirl beauty products are always on trend.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure merchandise to achieve budgeted sales results and gross profit targets while identifying growth opportunities.
- Ensure the achievement of OTB, margins, and pricing strategies for the department.
- Exhibit a strong understanding of beauty trends relevant to the Sportsgirl customer.
- Review and approve all development and pre-production samples to meet Sportsgirl's quality standards.
- Adapt and interpret international products and trends in line with the Sportsgirl brand vision.
- Guide and mentor your Buying Assistant to foster high performance and business outcomes.
- Establish robust internal and external stakeholder relationships.
- Clearly communicate with suppliers when requesting samples and negotiate costs for optimal pricing.
- Act as an ambassador for the Sportsgirl brand, maintaining effective relationships both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Fashion/Design/Merchandising or a degree in Business/Commerce.
- Prior experience as a designer, fashion buyer, or product developer in the beauty category is preferred.
- Understanding of buying and planning principles.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage critical paths, deadlines, and lead times.
- Proven experience in direct sourcing.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial management, including assortment planning and OTB management.
- Solid knowledge of the local and international marketplace.
