
Child Protection Practitioner

We are seeking experienced child protection professionals with exceptional analytical, assessment and communication skills to work in a multi-disciplinary service model.
JCPRP practitioners assess safety and risk to children and young people. To be successful, applicants must demonstrate strong attention to detail, highly developed critical thinking and problem solving, and excellent interpersonal and self-management skills.
A day in the life of a JCPR practitioner includes:
- Undertaking assessments to identify and address safety and risk concerns for children and young people
- Engaging in collaborative, child-focused practice that acknowledges and respects the culture and context of each child, young person and their carers/family
- Source timely, accurate and comprehensive information and make evidence-based decisions in line with the child/young person's safety, welfare and wellbeing
- Modeling ethical and curious practice that is responsive to the changing needs of children, young people and families
- Building relationships within the program, practice and legislative frameworks to promote meaningful change in families for better outcomes for children/young people and their families
The essential requirements include:
- Minimum of 2 years' frontline experience in statutory child protection services or within statutory investigation services
- Preferred completed or in your final semester of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Social Science and Welfare along with practical experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to build positive working relationships
- A valid driver's licence (P1 or above)
- A paid working with children clearance number
About the Role
This position requires an individual who can demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality services that meet the complex needs of vulnerable children and young people.
Candidates will have a deep understanding of child protection principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- To undertake assessments of children and young people who are at risk of harm or neglect, using a range of tools and techniques to gather information and identify potential risks and safety concerns
- To develop and implement safety plans in collaboration with other professionals, including family members and carers
- To provide support and guidance to children and young people, as well as their families and carers, to help them achieve positive outcomes and improve their overall wellbeing
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date records of case work, including progress notes, reports and other relevant documentation
Requirements
- Degree in Social Work or related field
- Minimum 2 years' experience in child protection or related field
- Valid driver's license
- Paid Working with Children Clearance Number
