We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Officer to lead in preparing and managing complex matters referred to the prosecution for. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Critical Case Preparation: Prepare prosecution cases on complex matters, including appeals, with professionalism and timeliness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate and manage relationships with stakeholders such as defence counsel, solicitors, police, victims, and witnesses to maintain clear, respectful communication.
  • Court Representation: Advocate in court for appeals, sentences, committal hearings, and bail applications across the Magistrates, District, or higher courts.
  • Sensitive Support: Engage with complainants and relatives, particularly in cases involving sexual or violent offences, with sensitivity and compassion.
  • Ledership and Mentoring: Lead and mentor legal officers and support staff, inspiring high standards and professional growth.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve work practices and streamline processes.
Requirements
  • Admission as a Legal Practitioner in a State or Territory of Australia is essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate the complexities of multi-stakeholder environments.
  • A proven track record of mentoring, training, and supporting legal teams to achieve outstanding results.
  • A trauma-informed, culturally sensitive approach when supporting victims of crime is critical.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of ethics and competency in all aspects of their work is expected.
