Trainee Town Planner Role Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic trainee town planner to join our organization for a two-year fixed-term program. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in statutory planning, development assessment, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities and Objectives
  • Provide expert advice on planning and development through Council's Duty Planner and pre-lodgement services
  • Assist with assessing development proposals and related applications by conducting thorough research and analysis
  • Support customers via counter, phone, and email, ensuring timely and effective communication
  • Ensure applications meet legislative requirements, adhering to relevant planning legislation and regulations
  • Prepare detailed reports, memorandums, and correspondence on development matters
  • Undertake site inspections and coordinate feedback from internal and external stakeholders, fostering strong relationships and collaboration
  • Meet Council deadlines and statutory timeframes, demonstrating a commitment to professionalism and accountability
  • Carry out other tasks as directed by the Team Leader or Manager, embracing a culture of continuous learning and improvement
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Enrolment in a tertiary course leading to a qualification in town planning or a related discipline, with a strong focus on development assessment and statutory planning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Basic understanding of relevant planning legislation and regulations, with a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Commitment to continuous learning and a proactive work ethic, with a strong desire to make a positive impact in the field of town planning
  • Class C Driver's Licence, with a valid driver's license required for site visits and inspections
