Human Resources Manager Job Description

The key to our success is a skilled and motivated workforce. We seek an experienced HR Manager to lead and strengthen our people function across multiple states.

This pivotal role ensures compliance with workplace legislation, drives efficient HR systems, and supports the growth of our skilled workforce.

  • Award & Compliance Expertise – ensuring accurate application of Award rates and workplace laws across our operations in Australia.
  • HR Systems & Processes – leading the implementation and optimization of a HR, payroll, and employee management platform.
  • Apprenticeship Program Support – working closely with management to strengthen and scale our apprenticeship programs.
  • Visa & Sponsorship Management – experience in managing working visas and sponsorship obligations ensuring compliance with immigration requirements.

This position is ideal for a HR professional who thrives in operationally focused environments, understands the nuances of trades-based industries, and can balance compliance with a practical people-first approach.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Recruitment & Workforce Planning
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment processes including job design, advertising, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Develop workforce plans to meet current and future staffing needs.
  • Manage employee contracts, position descriptions, and role classifications in line with legislation and Awards/Agreements.
Employee Relations & Engagement
  • Act as the first point of contact for HR enquiries, providing advice on HR policies and procedures.
  • Build and maintain positive employee relations, resolving workplace issues effectively.
  • Drive initiatives to strengthen employee engagement, retention, and satisfaction.
Performance & Development
  • Implement and oversee performance management frameworks.
  • Support managers in setting goals, coaching staff, and managing underperformance.
  • Develop training and professional development programs to build workforce capability.
Workplace Health, Safety & Wellbeing
  • Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and internal policies.
  • Promote employee wellbeing initiatives and support safe work practices.
  • Oversee return-to-work and injury management processes.
Compliance & HR Policy
  • Ensure compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009, National Employment Standards, and relevant Awards/Enterprise Agreements.
  • Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employee records.
  • Advise management on changes in workplace legislation, industrial relations, and best practices.
HR Strategy & Leadership
  • Contribute to business strategy through workforce planning and HR initiatives.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers on people management.
  • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 4 years HR experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or advisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment law, industrial relations, and HR best practices.
  • Experience in developing HR policies, procedures, and workforce strategies.
Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and credibility.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • High level of organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic and operational HR functions.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
