Engineer Development Program

You don't need to serve at sea to have an exciting career as a naval engineer. If you're currently studying towards a Bachelor's degree in engineering or have already graduated, you can apply for the Civilian Engineer Development Program.

The program provides broad professional development and recognition, with opportunities to grow and develop as a professional within the Department of Defence. You'll work on a range of projects, including research, design, documentation, and technical advice, to support the lifecycle of Navy ships, submarines, and aircraft.

This position offers unique opportunities to collaborate with industry partners, rotate through various projects, and advance your skills in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work on up to 36 months project-based rotations, involving research, design, documentation, and technical advice.
  • Examples of rotations include Cyber Systems, Electronic Warfare & Radar, Weapon Systems, Data Networks, and Mine Counter Measure Systems.
Requirements:
  • A minimum four-year Bachelor's degree, recognised in Australia, is required to apply for the CEDP.
  • The program is looking for applicants with an Engineering degree, accredited by Engineers Australia, specialising in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Robotics Autonomous Systems, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Civil/Infrastructure.
