About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Strategic Engineering Specialist to join our team at Rio Tinto. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for our Heavy Mining Equipment (HME) fleet.

Your primary focus will be on creating and managing quarterly and 5-year fleet plans, identifying asset requirements, and communicating updates to key stakeholders. You will also be a key contact for the broader business, providing guidance and support on HME fleet capabilities, suitability, and constraints.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for HME fleet management
  • Identify and communicate asset requirements to stakeholders
  • Provide guidance and support on HME fleet capabilities and constraints
  • Interact and influence operations to achieve business targets
  • Review and manage HME fleet strategies to standardize, simplify, and reduce system complexity
  • Liaise with Sustaining Capital Delivery Teams to schedule fleet deployments and new deliveries
  • Support and manage HME options analysis and liaise with Business Analysis to determine optimal business options
  • Manage Change (MoC) for new asset models
  • Continually identify, challenge, and implement system and process improvements
Requirements
  • 5+ years of engineering and operational experience with knowledge of HME capacity and operating parameters
  • Highly proficient in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite, Office 365, Microsoft Project, and Power BI
  • Database user and working knowledge of SAP and ORDW
  • Programming and database skills, including SQL
  • Proficiency in HME equipment, systems, processes, and tools
  • Ability to work autonomously and maintain effective time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to challenge and influence
  • Critical decision-making capability, with an analytical mindset and strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal skills
  • Drive for continuous improvements
