Health Education Officer

This is a unique opportunity to work within our Blood Borne Virus Program, coordinating hepatitis C testing services and providing harm reduction interventions for clients.

As a Health Education Officer, you will play a vital role in engaging with people who may be living with hepatitis C, promoting health education, and brief interventions to support their recovery.

The program focuses on reducing the spread of blood borne viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis C through the distribution of sterile injecting equipment, health promotion, overdose prevention, and safe disposal programs.

Our team works collaboratively to provide secondary services located in most Community Health Centres and needle dispensing machines are available at Bankstown, Bowral, Camden, and Liverpool Hospitals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide harm reduction interventions, including the provision of new injecting equipment and health education
  • Coordinate hepatitis C testing services and promote health education among clients
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve program goals
  • Develop and implement health promotional activities to support client engagement
  • Implement quality improvement processes to ensure high-quality service delivery

Requirements:

  • Relevant health qualifications or experience working with injecting drug users in harm reduction settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the harm reduction approach and experience in providing interventions with drug-dependent clients
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • High level of written and project management skills
  • Ability to plan and implement health promotional activities
