Your Role:
As the Beauty Merchandise Buyer, you will be responsible for selecting and developing innovative products that resonate with the Sportsgirl customer. Your efforts will directly contribute to achieving sales targets, intake margins, planned markdowns, and overall gross profit for the department.
Your background in managing a high SKU count category will be crucial in this fast-paced environment. You will engage in both buying and product development, showcasing your creativity and innovation in our beloved Sportsgirl beauty line to ensure our offerings are always on trend.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procure merchandise to meet budgeted sales results and gross profit targets while identifying growth opportunities.
- Ensure that open-to-buy (OTB), margins, and pricing strategies are effectively achieved.
- Exhibit a comprehensive understanding of beauty trends relevant to the Sportsgirl customer base.
- Review and approve all development and pre-production samples to meet Sportsgirl's quality standards.
- Adapt and reinterpret international products and trends in alignment with the Sportsgirl brand vision.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to your Buying Assistant.
- Establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Clearly communicate requirements to suppliers when requesting samples and negotiate costs to secure the best pricing.
- Act as a brand ambassador for Sportsgirl, maintaining effective relationships both internally and externally.
Qualifications:
To excel in this position, you should possess:
- A diploma in Fashion/Design/Merchandising or a degree in Business/Commerce.
- Prior experience as a designer, fashion buyer, or product developer within the beauty category is preferred.
- A solid understanding of buying and planning principles.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage critical paths, deadlines, and lead times.
- Proven experience in direct sourcing.
- Strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen.
- A demonstrated understanding of financial management, including assortment planning and OTB management.
- A solid grasp of both local and international market dynamics.
