About the Role

Cattle Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Policy Manager to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of the Australian cattle industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with our policy development structures to conceptualize, execute, and manage policy initiatives that align with our organization's goals and the priorities of our members and industry.
  • Critical Analysis: Analyze proposed policy initiatives to assess their potential impact on the industry and develop strategic responses.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with various stakeholders within industry and government to develop effective and targeted policy-making processes and advocacy strategies.
  • Government Engagement: Serve as a liaison with federal government entities on environmental issues, articulating industry perspectives, advocating for, and influencing policy decisions for our members.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with other cattle industry bodies to create a unified, influential voice for the industry, developing and maintaining partnerships that bolster industry growth, sustainability, and resilience.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide strategic counsel to the team, Regional Consultative Committee, and Board on policy matters related to environmental and sustainability.
  • Communication: Oversee communication pertaining to climate policy, ensuring clear, timely, and effective dissemination of information to relevant parties, representing the organization in industry events as required.
  • Policy Monitoring: Closely monitor and analyze policy trends, changes, and advancements within industry and government to ensure policy remains relevant and effective.
  • Relationship Building: Engage and collaborate with team members effectively and efficiently, contributing to a great working environment and culture, developing and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders in industry, government entities, and the broader community.
Qualifications
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in agriculture, environmental science, economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and execution, preferably within the agricultural industry.
  • Knowledge of government systems and legislative processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to operate in a small team environment and autonomously as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Passion for the agriculture sector with specific interests in the area of environmental sustainability.
