A highly experienced Senior Practitioner is required to join a dedicated team working with children in care and care leavers in Newcastle City. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to form effective relationships with children, carers, and families.
Key Responsibilities:- Undertake procedurally compliant assessments and section 47 enquiries to identify levels and types of risk or need based on documented evidence.
- Record and analyse information gathered during social care assessments in line with case recording policy, local and national guidance, and best practice principles.
- Develop clear associated plans that address issues identified for children in Newcastle, ensuring their needs are met.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislative principles, research, emerging case law, and best practice guidance.
- Engage with children, carers, and families to understand their circumstances, wishes, and feelings, forming conclusions that direct longer-term interventions focused on the best interests of the child.
- Contribute to the process of taking and recording children's contacts and referrals, achieving a full understanding of issues being referred, relative urgency, level of risk or need, and action needed in individual cases.
- Assist in providing court statements and reports required by courts and bodies connected with children's services.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide social care advice and interventions across Newcastle City Council and all agencies.
- Prioritise tasks according to relative urgency, levels, and types of risk and/or need, ensuring children are safe and their needs are met.
