About the Role:

The Senior Solicitor (Property and Projects) provides specialist legal advice and leadership in resolving legal issues arising in relation to the management of the council's property portfolio, including in relation to disputes and litigious matters. This role requires the ability to work efficiently and strategically to assist the delivery of strategic objectives of the council.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality legal support in matters relating to property management, leasing, and disputes.
  • Evaluate and advise on complex legal issues and determine strategies to effectively manage legal and strategic risk.
  • Manage legal disputes and brief and manage external lawyers or counsel where required.
  • Accurately record all relevant information in the Unit's database.
  • Inform the Principal Lawyer and General Counsel of all key legal matters and proceedings.
  • Provide legal support to corporate project teams and policy groups and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative, industrial, and Council policy requirements and standards in the areas of Equal Employment Opportunity, Work, Health and Safety, Rehabilitation, and Records Management.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation.

Essential Skills:

  • Admission or eligibility for admission to the Supreme Court of New South Wales.
  • Substantial post-admission experience (at least 5 years PQE) in projects and construction law.

Requirements:

This is a full-time contract for 12 months, to start as soon as possible.
