We are seeking a compassionate and collaborative specialist to join our Paediatric Palliative Care Service at John Hunter Children's Hospital.
- Provide specialist paediatric palliative care across inpatient, outpatient and community settings.
- Participate in after-hours support and statewide on-call advisory services.
- Collaborate with internal and external healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care.
- Contribute to education and training for medical students, junior doctors, nursing and allied health staff.
- Engage in research, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
This is an opportunity to provide holistic, family-centred care to children across the Hunter New England region and the Child Health Network – Northern.
As a member of our small, dedicated team, you will be supporting children and families and helping shape the future of paediatric palliative care in NSW.
About Us:
John Hunter Children's Hospital is one of only three dedicated children's hospitals in NSW, serving as the major paediatric referral centre for Northern NSW. Each year, we care for nearly 25,000 children and young people in our Emergency Department, admit over 10,000 patients and deliver more than 100,000 outpatient services across a wide range of specialties.
What You'll Do:
You will be responsible for providing specialist paediatric palliative care across inpatient, outpatient and community settings. This includes participating in after-hours support and statewide on-call advisory services, collaborating with internal and external healthcare teams to ensure coordinated care, contributing to education and training for medical students, junior doctors, nursing and allied health staff, and engaging in research, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Fellowship of the RACP and Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (or equivalent) and current specialist registration with AHPRA are required. Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary teamwork and compassionate care delivery is also essential. Strong communication, leadership and teaching skills are highly valued.
Benefits:
Be part of a highly respected children's hospital and a supportive, values-driven team. Contribute to a service that truly matters. Access to Fitness Passport, salary packaging and employee assistance programs are available. Career growth, collaborative projects and multidisciplinary support are encouraged.
Live and Work Where Others Holiday:
Trade long commutes and high living costs for a vibrant coastal lifestyle in Newcastle. Enjoy pristine beaches, a thriving food and arts scene, and easy access to the Hunter Valley and Lake Macquarie. Whether you're after surf, wine, or a family-friendly community, the region offers the perfect work-life blend.
