
Senior Marine Analyst

We are seeking a skilled Senior Analytical Chemist to join our team. As a member of our Hydrochemistry team, you will be responsible for conducting laboratory analyses of nutrients, dissolved oxygen, and salinity, as well as maintaining instrumentation and participating in coastal fieldwork and extended voyages.
You will work closely with national and international collaborators to deliver high-quality data and insights that underpin oceanographic studies, environmental monitoring, and climate research. This is a great opportunity to contribute to impactful research while further developing your skills and domain expertise in both laboratory and field settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Collecting and analyzing seawater samples for a range of nutrient species, as well as salinity and dissolved oxygen.
- Applying standard methods to process results and ensure data accuracy through quality assurance and control procedures.
- Maintaining and calibrating lab and shipboard analytical instruments.
- Liaising with clients and stakeholders on data collection, processing, and issue resolution.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Science, with an emphasis on Analytical Chemistry.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct routine and complex laboratory analyses, including maintenance and use of basic laboratory equipment.
- Proven capability to identify and troubleshoot issues through creative problem-solving.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills, with the ability to communicate clearly with team members and clients.

About the Role
This is a full-time position based in Hobart, TAS, with regular travel required for seagoing support. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
