Production Operator Job Description

Becoming a part of our team involves working together in a collaborative environment.

This role requires the individual to set up and operate machinery, specifically cutting and bending steel into structural shapes as specified by work orders, drawings or templates.

  • Pre-start checks will be conducted on all equipment before use.
  • Faults will be reported immediately to the supervisor or manager.
  • The individual is responsible for loading and unloading steel bars, operating controls, setting bend angles and inspecting quality parts in accordance with requirements.
  • Machinery and relevant equipment will be used in a safe manner as stated in the technical acceptance procedure (TAP).
  • The machine will be arranged at the beginning of each shift to ensure everything is in order.
  • Layouts, templates and check fixtures will be selected accordingly.
  • Tools and bending dies will be chosen appropriately.
  • Completed steel pieces will be examined for defects such as chipped edges or any defective pieces according to product type.
  • Finished steel pieces will be placed on a rack or pallet with a tag prior to loading in accordance with the schedule.
  • Non-conforming materials will be identified, properly tagged and removed.
  • A general clean-up of the work area will be performed at the end of each shift including sweeping the floor and emptying bins.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Pre-Start Checks: Conduct thorough pre-start checks on all equipment and machinery before it is used.
  • Report Faults: Report any faults to your Manager or Supervisor immediately.
  • Operate Machinery Safely: Responsible for operation, loading and unloading steel bars, operating controls, setting bend angles and inspection of quality parts in accordance with requirements.
  • Arrange Equipment: Arrange machine at the beginning of the shift to ensure that everything is in order.
  • Select Layouts and Tools: Select all layouts, templates and check fixtures. Select all tools and bending dies appropriately.
  • Examine Completed Pieces: Examine completed steel pieces for defects, such as chipped edges or any sort of defective pieces according to type of product.
  • Clean-Up: Place finished steel pieces on a rack or pallet with the tag prior to load in accordance with the schedule. Identify, properly tag and remove non-conforming materials. Performs general clean-up of the work area at the end of the shift including sweeping the floor and emptying the bins.
