About the RoleCareSouth's service delivery is expanding with a new program designed to support children and young people in a therapeutic home environment. This program, in collaboration with the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), follows the Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) model. It supports children and young people who cannot be supported in foster care or who require specialised and intensive supports to maintain stability in their care arrangements.
A Therapeutic Specialist plays a crucial role in providing clinical expertise and support within our therapeutic care homes.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Expertise:
- Develop and implement therapeutic support plans tailored to the needs of children and young people.
- Conduct assessments, formulations, and service coordination to ensure comprehensive care.
- Provide guidance and support to care teams in delivering trauma-informed care.
- Facilitate care team meetings to discuss and plan for the therapeutic needs of the children and young people.
- Work closely with caseworkers, the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), and other relevant agencies.
- Ensure decisions are guided by principles of permanency planning and therapeutic care.
- Offer training and support to staff to enhance their understanding and implementation of therapeutic practices.
- Promote a safe and supportive environment for both staff and the young people in care.
- Safety and Stability: Create a safe, home-like environment for young people aged 12-18.
- Healing from Trauma: Focus on helping young people heal from past traumas.
- Skill Building: Assist young people in developing life skills and building connections.
- Perseverance: Provide continuous support, giving young people as many chances as they need to succeed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the safety of children, young people and people with a disability.
- Degree qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Mental Health Nursing (Post Graduate Qualifications will be highly regarded).
- A thorough understanding of the theories relating to and the impact of trauma, abuse and neglect on a child or young person's development and well-being.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Demonstrated capacity to persevere and achieve positive outcomes when working with young people who have experienced trauma and have complex needs and.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively with others and exercise influence in a diversity of contexts.
- Experience in completing assessments for children and young people and using the findings to complete a comprehensive therapeutic written report/care plan designed to inform staff and child interactions and the Care Team's planning.
