Grounds Maintenance Operator Job Description

We are seeking multiple Grounds Maintenance Operators to support the delivery of Property and Asset Services across South Australia and the Northern Territory.

This role involves performing a wide range of manual and machinery-assisted tasks in physically demanding outdoor environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating plant equipment, performing general laboring duties, and assisting tradespeople and site teams.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and clearing land for construction, agriculture, or infrastructure projects.
  • Operating plant and construction machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Loading, transporting, and handling materials and equipment.
  • Performing manual labor including digging, lifting, and trenching.
  • Supporting tradespeople and crews with general site tasks.
  • Conducting equipment checks and report faults or hazards.
  • Identifying utility lines and managing soil conditions.
  • Setting up and cleaning work areas to maintain site safety.
  • Following site plans, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Participating in toolbox talks and contributing to a safe work culture.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Safe operation of mowers, blowers, compactors, and other landscaping equipment.
  • Ability to lift, dig, bend, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Assisting with fencing, paving, retaining walls, and irrigation systems.
  • Familiarity with OH&S procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to follow instructions, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively on-site.
  • Punctuality, dependability, and ability to complete tasks efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Relevant licenses, white card, and first aid requirements highly regarded.
  • Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
