About Explosive Ordnance Licensing

This position is a critical component of the Australian Defence Force's (ADF) efforts to ensure the safe storage and handling of explosives across Australia.

As an Explosive Ordnance Licensing Officer, you will be responsible for interpreting and applying policies and procedures related to the safe storage and handling of all guided weapons and explosive ordnance natures for Defence.

Your key duties will include:

  • Creating, amending, and cancelling explosive licences;
  • Preparing risk assessments and safeguarding maps;
  • Conducting licensing reviews at Defence Bases and Establishments across Australia.

Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require a high level of computer literacy, with experience in Microsoft Office Suite being essential. Familiarity with AutoCAD would also be beneficial.

In addition, you will need to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working with Us

The Directorate of Logistics - Explosive Ordnance is responsible for the national storage and distribution of explosive ordnance for the ADF.

A key element of the Directorate is the Explosive Ordnance Licensing Authority (EOLA), which is responsible for authorising the safe storage and handling of explosive ordnance within Defence.

EOLA issues Limit Licences in accordance with Defence Policies and Procedures.

Our team is small but highly skilled, located at Defence Establishment Orchard Hills in Western Sydney.

We issue licenses to all explosive storage facilities within Australia and maintain over 70 Safeguarding Maps that act as a planning tool to protect the utility of EO storage facilities from public encroachment.

We are also involved in planning and site selection of the building and refurbishment of explosive storage facilities within Defence.

We provide on-the-job training to develop your skills in this role.
