Role Summary

The Public Health Officer - Manager, Epidemiology and Research Unit is a key role within Queensland Health, responsible for providing strategic advice and analysis of public health strategies, policies, and initiatives at the state and national level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level leadership and strategic direction in public health governance at a state level, with a focus on planning, implementing, and evaluating complex public health policies and initiatives.
  • Deliver expert counsel to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring that public health strategies align with Queensland Health's goals to improve public health outcomes and manage risk effectively.
  • Lead statewide public health reforms and facilitate the development of innovative public health initiatives in response to communicable diseases.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including national and international partners, to enhance public health intelligence capacity and improve public health policies and practices.
  • Provide authoritative advice, based on analysis of public health data, to inform decision-making and contribute to evidence-based reforms.
  • Drive business model efficiencies and leverage technology and data to enhance the effectiveness of public health intelligence and practice.
  • Lead on statewide and national committees to position Queensland Health as a leader in public health governance.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate the ability to drive strategic change by shaping policy reforms, implementing operational improvements, fostering innovation, and promoting quality enhancement.
  • Act as a strategic consultant, offering authoritative advice on public health matters.
  • Apply specialized knowledge, analytical expertise, and professional insight to develop effective solutions for complex public health policy challenges at a statewide level.
  • Contribute to overall strategy, challenge existing practices, and lead policy transformations.
