Senior Mechanic Job Description

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role that combines technical expertise with leadership skills? Do you have a passion for maintaining complex equipment and ensuring the safety of others?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanic to join our team in Alice Springs, Australia. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing skilled mechanic work on light, heavy, or specialty vehicles, as well as supervising and mentoring junior mechanics.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, HVAC, hydraulics, electrical, and suspension
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance, inspections, overhauls, trouble shooting, and field repairs
  • Ensure quality workmanship using vehicle diagnostic tools and maintain compliance with manufacturer standards and internal procedures
  • Lead, coach, and mentor junior mechanics, including performance monitoring and reviews
  • Oversee daily workshop flow, balancing reactive and scheduled work, including workload planning and workshop management
  • Liaise with logistics and scheduling teams to ensure materials are available for upcoming tasks
  • Maintain accurate records of labor hours, work orders, maintenance logs, and vehicle history

Requirements:

  • Certificate III in Facilities Trades or equivalent experience
  • Trade Certificate IV in Leadership and Management or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with site facilities systems, infrastructure, and equipment
